Exclusive Session by Professor Dr. Kunal Basu, University of Oxford, U.K.

“A brand is what people say about you when you are not in the room” Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon

This quote was one of the best personal branding definitions, defined by Professor Dr. Kunal Basu during the exclusive session for MIMers held earlier in one evening of February 2018.  It is a privilege of becoming MIM alumni to always have an opportunity to keep up-to-date with the world’s marketing trends from a world-class professor.  Again, from Professor Dr. Kunal Basu's session on “Personal Branding”,  it gave me a new inspiration of how to do a branding in the digital world, and social media era, where many of the past 5-years marketing models are no longer applicable.

One of the highlight examples mentioned in the session was about Sir Richard Branson who gave a clear view of how to use personal branding with the organization he has founded.  Branson had a unique personality of using positive disruption in whatever industry he entered.  For example, when Virgin Atlantic firstly entered the airline business and took on market leaders like British Airways, Air France or American Airline by providing “Fun” experience matching with Branson’s personality.  It turned out that Virgin Atlanticquickly gained market share from previous market leaders through his disruption ideas and people would always remember Branson as an innovative industry disruption in whatever business he entered.

Last but not least, not only being a special knowledge-sharing session, this event also gave us an opportunity to connect with the past alumni and new MIMers.  We had the chance to share experience, thoughts and perspective on various topics.  So once again, it is a privilege to become MIM alumni and we would like to thank TUMIMA for these endless opportunities.
