MK 724: COMPETING ON BUSINESS ANALYTICS (FOR MIM-30)
Competing on Business Analytics (MK 732) is a relatively new course in IT at MIM offered in the second year for MIM-26.  The course will showcase the virtually unlimited opportunities that exist today to leapfrog the competition by leveraging the data that organizations routinely collect every day, but which they hardly use strategically to make decisions at various points in the value chain.  Students will be exposed to a wide gamut of issues related to data analytics and business intelligence, including the strategic aspects of big and better data as well as the details of analytical methods and data mining and visualization tools such as XLMiner and WEKA.  This course will be held during October 18-25, 2013 and will be taught by Professor Dr. Anitesh Barua who is one of the world-famous IT's gurus.
Professor Dr. Anitesh Barua is Professor of Information, Risk and Operations Management at McCombs School of Business, the University of Texas at Austin, U.S.A.  He received his Ph.D from Carnegie Mellon University in 1991. Dr. Barua's research has been sponsored by both government and private organizations including the National Science Foundation, Cisco Systems, Dell Computer, Ernst & Young, IBM Research, Intel Corporation and Sprint.  Over 50 of his research articles have appeared in refereed journals, conference proceedings and edited book chapters.  His recent research on the Internet Economy (sponsored by Cisco Systems) and e-business value assessment (sponsored by Dell) has been featured in every significant media outlet around the world.
Dr. Barua has received many awards for his research and teaching since 1991 including the "2012 Regents' Outstanding Teaching Awards" in recognition of faculty members who have demonstrated extraordinary classroom performance and innovation instruction.  The awards program is likewise one of the nation's most competitive.  He has also appeared on multiple occasions as an Electronic Commerce expert on major television and radio programs in the U.S.A. and abroad.
Dr. Barua has a very interesting hobby.  He loves playing music and has been a key drummer in a number of bands both in India his hometown and in the U.S.A.
